Dear Mozilla, Microsoft and Six Apart...

Vox's restore thing is wonky. It's better than nothing at times but it doesn't seem to work properly. The spellcheck really doesn't work, I have to click it at least twice. Anyway...I was having a lot of issues with uploading music for a few days, but I think it was my internet provider. I can't vouch for anything else though, I don't use Vista or Firefox, and everything else Vox-related works all right for me.

I hope you get this resolved, a post of yours w/o photos is like...a cupcake without icing!! Okay, maybe not THAT severe...a cupcake without sprinkles.

Blame Bill (Gates).
I agree with cranky that the Vox restore is a last-ditch save and shouldn't be relied on for a full recover - I hardly ever draft my posts in a browser any more because of the problems I've had in the past with losing long posts due to a browser crash and/or a mis-key on my part.

As for your other issue, you have a lot of variables in your problem - can you rule some of them out?

- Does the same problem happen if you use Internet Explorer to upload the picture?
- Are you using the latest version of Firefox, and if not, does the problem still exist if you tried that latest version?
- Have you tried turning off all your addons in Firefox to see if one of them is causing a conflict with the upload process?
- Have you tried turning off the Firefox "restore session" feature and see if that is what is causing the conflict with the upload process?

I think I can rule out the Vista aspect - I've got Vista at home and use that and FF with no issues in uploading. Of course, something in your configuration could be doing something weird, but I have the feeling it's a Firefox/SA conflict, not an operating system problem.

Also, is it only during the UPLOAD of the photo, or during the inclusion of a photo into a post that FF crashes? If it's just the uploading, you could always upload in IE, or upload to a site like flickr and then just add from your library into the post in FF. Yes, it's a pain, but if you're really hurting to get pictures into your posts, that might work.
Um...I bought a Macintosh. ((shrugs))
It runs beautifully, but now I have no money. HAH!

"...but consistently losing content that I've put a lot of hard work is probably the worst feeling for any writer."

I have the same problem. My laptop, which has Vista, is a nightmare when I go to upload pictures on Vox. The system freezes, closes, and then makes me reboot because I get that ever wonderful message: Firefox is already running. Please close and IT IS CLOSED YOU IDIOT!

And of course when I restore, it's gone.

However, I don't have the problem when I use my desktop, which does not have Vista. I assumed it was a Vista problem.
Have you upgraded to firefox3?

for me firefox2 had loads of memory leaks - causing unspeakable errors on my system - to the point where i actually considered going back to IE *GASPS*

But FF3 has been nothing but awesome - and easily copes with the 30+ tabs I have open at once (I know, I Know)
Hiya! Thanks for your comment...

Yeah, I upgraded to FF3 about 2 weeks ago. I like it a lot better! However, I've realized now that the crashing problem is definitely Vista's fault. It's happened when trying to upload a photo to LastFM and a couple other sites, as well. Stupid Vista...

The funny thing about upgrading to FF3 was that it wouldn't allow me to do it WHILE using FF2, so I had to use IE. W.T.F?
I suppose the other thing to check is that you've not got mapped drives to places which are unreachable (another computer which is off, etc). As this'll cause the explorer to hang when it starts looking for things.

Other than that, put it down to vista being rubbish....
