My new guilty pleasure...
Hillary Clinton's memoir Living History called out to me when I was at WHSmith, desperately trying to find a book/magazine that didn't have Victoria Beckham on the cover, or have a title like:
The Diary/Memoir/Tales/Confessions of a English/British/French/Brazilian/Manhattan Call
Girl/Prostitute/Hooker/Stripper/Escort"
I grew up in a very Republican family, and was brought up to believe the Clintons, and especially Hillary, as being The Devil, and generally just bad, bad people. Well, I've decided to give Hillary a chance, and am going over to The Dark Side. (I'm sorry, Mom!!)
I fear I'm slowly falling in love with HIllary, and her book.
I figure I don't just want to vote for her because she's a woman, and would like to actually get to know her...
So, here's my confession. I'm becoming a Hill-raiser.

Ironically, Bill? The potential First Lady? I've loved him forever. I grew up very Democratic...though anymore, I just want someone in office who's just not a blithering, greedy, unscrupulous dickhead.
Hillary's Choice; and if you wanted a more objective eye, there is
a bio out by Carl Bernstein (of Watergate fame). She is a lot smarter
than she often appears when campaigning. Sven and I somehow
were invited to conference calls with her, first on foreign policy
(with Madeleine Albright) and tomorrow on higher education.
She is so unbelievably sophisticated-- compared to what her every-
day campaign sound-byte persona would have you believe; and so
much mroe interesting. A really hard worker. I love Barack, too.
But I would like to see him have a bit more experience. When JFK,
another charismatic politician, ran for Prez, he had been in Senate a
lot longer.
I was raised in an anti-politics family. The Union was the only thing that mattered.
You win, dear Cate. You win.
:)
And if I look close enough I can see you reflection in the tub faucet. I have a pink scrunchy too.
Thanks a lot, Joey. I just spent the last hour blowing up the photo and scrutinizing the reflection in the faucet, and still couldn't see anything. My eyes hurt. I think I need a nap.
Nice toes, though.
You two scare me, lol.
Bushra:
Yes it is definitely worth a read! I'm just shy of half way through, and it's pretty fascinating. It's not exactly an *easy* read as it really goes into detail about stuff, but I feel like I'm learning a lot. It's also nice because the language she uses isn't overwhelming, so it's easy to understand. I vote you read it!
Benjamin-
I certainly hope so!!!
You two scare me, lol.
It's what I'm here for.
I'll still luv'ya even if you support her but I may have to throw up once or twice.
Oh you!
...PLEASE DON'T TELL MY MOM!!!!!!! I'll be shot on sight!!!!!
I thought the book was good--it changed a lot of my thoughts about her, even though I always admired her before.
